NEXT  ELFUN LUNCH; JULY 26, 2023 [PAST EVENT]RSVP NOW

Ed Dawson, Managing Director-Wealth Management at UBS Financial Services, is hosting this luncheon.  Guest Speakers will be Gwyneth Sauceda, Ambassador-Road Scholars, and Michael Gohlke, Regional Director, Virtus Investment Partners.

The presentation by Ms. Sauceda will discuss her travel experiences and adventures with Road Scholar which offers 5,500 learning adventures, serving more than 100,000 participants annually.  Their programs combine travel and education to provide experiential learning opportunities featuring an extraordinary range of topics, formats, and locations in every state, 150 counties and aboard ships.  Explore how to see the world and learn about the world with educational travel.

The financial presentation will highlight ways to help achieve better long-term financial outcomes with MIND OVER MARKETS, a behavioral guide to investing.  And it will include a discussion on a variety of behaviors that influence the way we think and act about money.

Upcoming Events

  • The Yosemite tent cabins trip for 2023 has been cancelled due to potential flooding.  All impacted parties have been notified.   Please refer to future Elfun communications for details.

Recent Events

  • Saturday March 25th 2023, the Great Elfun Shred-Out was back after a 3 year pandemic delay. We had almost 40 participants!
  • Wednesday March 22nd 2023, our Elfun Annual Meeting and luncheon took place. This was our annual Elfun meeting, where you are able to meet the Board Members, vote on our slate of officers, and learn of events that are being planned for 2023.
  • December 11th 2022, the Santa Clara Chorale “String Up the Lights” Holiday musical entertainment event was enjoyed by many Elfuns.
  • October 12th 2022, a Zoom presentation on the Columbia Space Shuttle explosion by Engineer Jeff Hern in Wilmington was very in-depth and quite interesting!
  • September 5th 2022, a Bocce Ball event was held. All who attended had fun.
  • August 24th 2022, a luncheon talk on the American obsession with car collecting was given by Jim Boyden, and he described his lifetime of restoring and owning antique cars and horseless carriages. This time our zoom transmission failed due to my ineptness.

Community Support

  • Toiletries for shelters: As you travel, save your toiletries from the hotels and bring them to our next luncheon. We will take these toiletries to the homeless shelter.

Wednesday, July 27, 2022 – NOTE, 4th Wednesday [PAST EVENT]

Jerry Marks gave a presentation on Charitable Giving and Taxes. This included rules on Required Minimum Distributions, Qualified Charitable Distributions and Donor Advised Funds accounts. He also talked about new regulations on inherited IRAs and pending legislation.

For this Luncheon, a Zoom display of the presentation was successfully transmitted to those who did not attend in person. This was being done in an effort to include Elfuns that were unable to attend the luncheon and/or live out of this area. If you are unable to attend future luncheons but wish to view a presentation live – please notify me and I will establish a list to send the link before the meeting presentation.

Wednesday, May 25, 2022 [PAST EVENT]

Willard Roit Principal Engineer, Mechanical Components, GE Hitachi, gave a presentation on the

BWRX 300.  This is GE’s Small Modular Reactor (SMR). The first one being built is in

Darlington, Ontario, Canada. The schedule for groundbreaking is in 2023 and completion in 2028.

The Annual Elfun Business luncheon was held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the Three Flames Restaurant in San Jose CA.

This Annual meeting was delayed for one month due to an increase of COVID cases over the holidays.

During this meeting, there was a presentation on planned activities and events for 2022.

Also, Matt Polomik gave a short presentation on the Elfun webpage (www.elfunnorcal.org).

Please note that the Elfun Society subsidizes the costs of luncheons by $7.00 during 2022 to keep the

member price at $15.00 per person.
