Social activities:  The following are Elfun activities that we have enjoyed in the past, and are considering for the future – in these areas (including additional notes):

  • Monthly luncheons are subsized ($7 per lunch beginning January 2022).  They are scheduled for the 4th Wednesday of every other month from January through October, with November’s luncheon being variable, and no luncheon in December.  These monthly luncheons are typically held at the Three Flames Restaurant, at 1547 Meridian Avenue, San Jose CA, and start at 11:15 AM – 12:00 PM for the Social hour, and the Business Meeting & Lunch served at 12:45 PM – 1:30 PM)

  • Professional/amateur athletic events (tickets to San Jose Giants games)

  • Santa Clara Chorale performance in December

    • Federal Reserve guided tour, and lunch at Pier 39
    • Coit Tower, and lunch at Ghirardelli Square
    • Twin Peaks, Tour of Wells Fargo Museum, and lunch in China Town
  • Coastal destinations:
    • Elkhorn Slough tour on flatbed boat with guide, followed by lunch.
    • Monterey Bay Aquarium behind-the-scenes with guide, followed by lunch at the Aquarium
    • Santa Cruz sailing on the Chardonnay ship
    • San Francisco Bay – Berkeley Hawaiian Chieftain sailboat, and dinner at His Lordship Restaurant
    • Alameda – tour of USS Hornet (aircraft carrier), lunch on-board in Officers’ Mess Hall
  • Yosemite National Park annual camping weekend (>30 years)
  • Other excursions/activities:
    • Tour of and lecture on Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton in San Jose, followed by catered lunch.
    • GE Digital in San Ramon – tour/lecture on GE Digital business, followed by lunch
    • GE Hitachi Training Facility & Tooling Center in San Ramon: business updates, and lunch
    • Draegers Cooking Class in San Mateo: cooking demonstration & dinner
    • Avaya Stadium tour in San Jose

Field trips (typically under consideration):

  • Filoli Gardens tour in Woodside
  • Computer History Museum tour in Mountain View
  • Local wine barrel tasting.  Locations under consideration include the Concannum Winery in Livermore, and the Guglielmo Winery in Morgan Hill

During the pandemic:

  • We provided tickets for San Jose Giants games.
  • We reserved tickets to the October 2021 performance of ‘Hamilton” in San Jose Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Offered Zoom conferences on Chernobyl by two Wilmington employees.
  • Organized nuclear updates.
